Of Beggars and Politicians: A Response to Cong. Lani Mercado-Revilla’s Statement

In a recent blog published by Fashion Pulis, it revealed a  controversial statement by Congresswoman Lani Mercado-Revilla pertaining to the current issue and scandal of the alleged misuse of Philippine funds in the form of the officials’ ‘pork barrel‘.

When asked about her thoughts on the suggested removal of the pork barrel from the Congress and the Senate, the wife of Senator Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla, Jr. exclaimed:

Basta huwag lang manghihingi sa amin ang mga tao! Hindi naman puwede yung sa pinaghihirapan namin dahil sa personal naman namin yun, sa mga anak, sa mga pang-araw-araw na panggastos namin.

If this is true, I think the response of Cong. Lani Mercado-Revilla was at the very least unethical for a public servant; specially that the issue at hand involve a lot of personalities including her family being linked to the controversial Janet Lim-Napoles.

It mocks her constituents in Cavite and the public. The same people whom she supposedly serves.

To that statement, as a citizen of the Philippines, my response is:

Opo, hindi kami manghihingi sa mga congressman at senador tulad ninyo, basta huwag din po kukurakutin ang pera namin at ng taong bayan.- BloggerManila.com
