The World of Supercars: PGA Cars’ Luxury Motorshow

It was an ordinary weekend last February 8, 2015 until my wife and I visited the car show hosted by PGA Cars entitled “The World of Supercars“.

I have to admit that owning a Porsche, a Bentley, an Audi, or a Lamborghini remains to be a dream.

But that weekend with PGA Cars gave us the opportunity to have a glimpse and get close to some of our favorite models of Porsche, Lamborghini, Audi, and Bentley. It happened all at the same time in one big motorshow venue along the halls of SMX at the SM Mall of Asia complex.

Upon entry into the car exhibition hall, we were immediately greeted by a line-up of Porsche sports cars.

Featuring Porsche’s best-selling new models as well as iconic ones, Porsche Philippines played as one of the host brands for the very first World of Supercars Motorshow.

On hand were Porsche’s model line-up, consisting of the 911 GT3, Maccan Turbo and Cayenne Turbo SUV’s, Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS, as well as a classic 912, a 930 Turbo and a Carrera GT, one of only three in the Philippines.

Porsche 911 GT3

Porsche 911 GT3: for the track-focused driving enthusiast

The Porsche brand has always been known for uncompromising driving performance and involvement, and their line-up of sports car definitely emphasized this. Each caters to a different segment of the sports car market, from the more lifestyle oriented (Boxster), to the more hard-core 911 GT3.

The 911 model celebrates its 52nd birthday in 2015, and the golden boy has definitely learned many new tricks along the way. The latest GT3 has a lower, longer and wider chassis form its predecessors, and features an all-new direct-injected 3.8 liter flat-six engine producing 475hp and 440 Newton-Meters of torque, mated to Porsche’s 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, a first in the GT3 variant’s history. It comes with a battery of electronic driving aids such as rear-wheel steer which enhances agility in low-speed corners and Porsche’s torque-vectoring system, a driver’s aid that helps boost cornering ability and speed.

The GT3 is joined alongside by its 911 Carrera S and 911 Targa brethren with its innovative glass-topped roof that offers the very best of open-air, sun in your face motoring without worrying about pollution entering your cabin and spoiling your drive.

The Cayenne Turbo and Macan Diesel SUV’s respectively bring the legendary and world-renowned Porsche Performance ethos off the beaten path to create your own, mixing intelligent performance adding off-road ability along with unsurpassed speed and agility. The Maccan brings sensible but other wordly efficient performance thanks to its 3.0 TDI diesel engine that packs 245hp and a massive 580 Newton-Meters of torque through a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch al-wheel drive transmission.

Porsche 912

Lamborghini Manila & The Bulls of Bologna

Of particular highlight in our visit was the Lamborghini Manila showcase. I call it “cars with wings“.

Standing tall and proud with wings opened up, Lamborghini Manila unveiled the newest, most technologically advanced and fearsome supercar from San’t Agata Bologenese.

The Huracan replaces the best-selling Lamborghini model, the Gallardo, which has sold almost 15,000 units in its decade long production run. The Huracan features an aluminum and carbon-fiber moncoque chassis powered by the familiar 5.2 liter normally aspirated V10 engine, but now equipped with direct fuel injection and outputting a massive 610hp and 560 Newton-Meters of torque that meets upcoming Euro VI emissions regulations.

Lamborghini Huracan

Lamborghini Huracan: All Wheel Drive with 7-speed dual0clutch transmission. The Huracan was a fighting bull that was known for its courage that fought in 1879. It is the successor to the successful Gallardo. The Huracan is the first Lamborghini wtth a dual-clutch transmission system. Mating it with a 5.2L V10 engine that produces 610hp, the Huracan accelerates from 0-100 kph in less than 3.2 seconds. The Huracan is equipped with Lamborghini Piattaforma Inerziale where multiple sensor measure the vehicle’s movements and makes adjustments to improve performance.

It sends power to all four wheels thanks to Lamborghini’s latest LDF dual-clutch transmission which allows almost seamless, lightning-fast shifting of gears, sending power uninterruptedly to propel the Huracan forward onto a top speed of 325km/h with naught to a hundred kilometers in only 3.2 seconds.

The Huracan is joined alongside by its big brother, the Aventador LP700-4, and as the figures denote, produces an even more impressive 700hp and 690 Newton-Meters of torque form its 6.5 liter V12, sending drive to all four wheels via a 7-speed ISR transmission, the fastest shifting non dual-clutch transmission.

Lamborghini Aventador

Lamborghini Aventador: This was named after a fighting bull that fought valiantly in Saraagossa , Spain in 1993. The successor to the Murcielago, the Aventador continues the line of V12 models from Lamborghini

Lamborghini Aventador LP 700 4

Lamborghini Aventador LP 700 4: Built all new, it features a new carbon finer chassis which makes the car extremely rigid and light. It transmission, an independent Shifting Rod system, is the fastest shifting non-dual clutch transmission in the world.

The Aventador utilizes a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis which challenged Lamborghini engineers to research and perfect new manufacturing methods that utilize autoclaved carbon-fiber preparation and production, a core material in the Aventador.

The Huracan and Aventador are joined by their respective predecessors, the Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale, of which there are only four in the country from a limited run of 300 units, and the Lamborghini Murcielago Super Veloce 670 or LP670-SV, the only one in the country from a limited run of only 100 units worldwide.

Lamborghini Murcielago

Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670 4 : The Murcialego was named after a fighting bull that survived 24 sword strikes in 1879. The ultimate version of the Murcielago, this model was the final iteration before the Aventador.

Audi & Hollywood

The four-ringed brand’s representation was bannered by a couple of high-powered sedans preferred by protagonists in iconic Hollywood films.

Audi’s first-generation S8 (in Ronin Film), with a naturally-aspirated V8 mated to a five-speed tiptronic, is joined by the Audi A8 W12. The latter is Audi’s luxurious four-door, full-size sedan amply powered by a 6.0-liter W12 serving up a robust 450hp and 580Nm. This was the choice of Jason Statham’s character Frank Martin in two of the Transporter flicks.

Iron Man fans was also reminded by Tony Stark’s Audi R8 supercarAudi R8 4.2 FSI and the limited-edition R8 GT. The R8 also appears in two other fine flicks: Fifty Shades of Grey and Taken 3.

Audi’s vehicles on display in “The World of Super Cars” also included the Audi RS6 Avant – boasting a 5.0-liter, turbocharged V10 delivering 580hp, 650Nm. It is the German carmaker’s most powerful production car yet – in an exquisitely unassuming, formal, and classy form.

Ultralux Bentleys

The new Bentley Flying Spur V8 boasts a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged engine capable of generating 500hp of power and 660Nm of torque. These sterling numbers are harnessed through Bentley’s all-wheel drive and eight-speed quick-shift transmission.

The Bentley Continental GT V8 is an elegant, exciting take on the desirable Continental GT – though it shares the obvious pedigree through the distinctively prominent bonnet line and matrix grille, along with the large inner headlamps.

On the other hand, the Bentley Mulsanne – named after a corner of the Le Mans racing circuit – embodies superlatives in craftsmanship and bespoke luxury. The flagship vehicle of the Bentley stable is a full-size executive sedan whose interior comfort and features are amply matched by a powerful heart. The 6.75-liter turbocharged V8, mated to an eight-speed automatic, delivers 505hp and an incredible 1020Nm.
