Transitions Signature Lenses Review: Seeing Through New Lenses
At age five, I was diagnosed with cataract on my left eye. Probably congenital or through an accident we were unaware of, we can’t be really sure.
At that young age I underwent a cataract surgery, had a left-eye lens implant, and went through the usual procedures of recovery. However, my left eye turned into a “lazy eye;” a medical term which basically means my eyesight turned “lazy” focusing on objects hence the blurred vision. My right eye was completely ok.
Through the years, this concern was managed with care but at the same time, my right eye was also given concern since logically, it would carry the ‘load‘ of “seeing” where the blurred left eye couldn’t help. At that time, I wore corrective eyeglasses for the left eye and a preventive lens for the right.
My spectacles in school were unbalanced with the left one very thick while the right one remained normal.
The stubborn kid in me didn’t want to wear eyeglasses. It was a love-hate relationship through the past 31 years, there were times I wore my glasses, there times I didn’t and eventually went by without it.
Transitions Signature Lenses
After getting married in 2013 and a retinal tear on my left eye at the same year, there was a renewed concern over both my eyes, and this time with added prodding from my caring wife Marjorie.
Late last year, a friend recommended to me about modern eyeglass frames which are very light as well as lenses which changes shades in sunlight. I thought that this was something perfect for someone like me who hates heavy-framed eyeglasses and whose left eye is sensitive to the sunlight such that I would squint whenever I am on the streets.
She introduced me to Transitions Lenses.
Further research and physical canvass on the market led me to the latest in Transitions lenses technology – the Signature Lens.
I’ve learned that Transitions Optical, Inc. has released its latest Transitions Signature lenses available across the region in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines!
I consulted some of my cousins who I know have been wearing eyeglasses with Transistions lenses and got positive feedback that indeed it works. Although their Transitions was not that of the Signature, I thought that if they were satisfied with the older Transitions, how much more would the latest technology with Chromea7 work for me?
As per my research, the Chromea7 technology enabled the most responsive adaptive lenses to date and was tested with an exclusive measurement methodology, Life360. This enables the lenses greater adaptability to different types of lighting conditions resulting to a superior and more comfortable lens-wearing experience.
I guess it’s time to reconsider wearing my eyeglasses back to protect a valuable asset in my life – my eyesight!
Photochromic Technology
Eventually, I bought a half-frame lightweight titanium eyeglass frames from an optical in SM North Edsa and had it equipped with the Transitions Signature Lenses.
I started using my new eyeglasses just this January 2015 and have considerably noticed how the lightweight frames helped me easily adjust-back wearing eyeglasses. I have also appreciated how the Transitions lenses adopt to changing lighting conditions.
Basically, what makes Transition Optical‘s photochromic lenses different from the other clear corrective lenses is that they are able to adjust their level of tint according to the amount of light present.
They are also more responsive to indirect light such that it works even indoors including light reflected from buildings and indirect glare and haze from scattered light in low-light conditions, say, inside cars (non-tinted). You’d have to note however, that Transitions Signature lenses are different from polarised lenses and does not activate behind the windshields of tinted vehicles as the windshields blocks UV rays.
Here are some more indoor sample shots on how my Transitions photochromic lenses adjusted to light conditions indoors while I am wearing them. Can you notice the slight-greyish tint? They come in different levels of grey, as they say, there are 50 shade of grey, right? (pun intended).
So far, I am enjoying my new found comfort with my lightweight eyeglasses with high-end photochromic Transitions lenses. Transitions is available in authorized eye care practitioners around the Philippines in a range of materials and designs. Know more about it at their website http://www.transitions.com/en-ph/.
