Christmas Special: WIKO T10 Smartphone Review

Undoubtedly, smartphones are the most in demand gifts for Filipinos during the Christmas season across all age range – from young adults to the older generation.

Understandably, it is practical choice, specially as the Philippines has been known as one of the social media centers in the world.

And with that, a number of brands from the west (led by the US) and the east (led by China), dominate the mobile phone market. So it was good to know that brands from other continents such as Eurpoe, are begining to enter our local market as well.

In particular, we’re looking at the French brand WIKO. And for this review, we are highlighting their WIKO T10 smartphone.

Upon getting the WIKO T10 unit, the striking Emerald Green (similar to blue green) color way of the packaging immediately caught our attention. This is also a bit unique, which is good for the brand, amidst an already-saturated mobile phone market such as Manila.

On the other hand, we are managing our expectations of this WIKO phone model as the T10 is generally classified as a beginner’s entry level smartphone.

Nonetheless, knowing that the brand comes from France, also helps with the market reception and perception for the phone.

As mentioned above, the macro-outlook for the brand is off on a good start. Now let’s take a look inside.

Unboxing the WIKO T10 reveals standard content including the smartphone itself, 10W power adapter, cable, pin, user guide, and warranty form.

Definitely catching your immediate attention is the Emerald Green back cover of the phone, just like its external colorway.

Upon closer inspection, you’d actually be surprised that the cover made of plastic, because it doesn’t feel such. This is perhaps because of the edgy design lines with brushed texture that adds a better grip as well. And hey, you don’t have to worry about fingerprints all-over.

A flip on the other side reveals an edgeless screen design, while the front 6.5″ display is crowned with a dewdrop accent at the top holding the front camera eye.

You might also notice that a screen protection film is already pre-installed – that’s good. But I had hoped there was at least a basic transparent case like with others. There are no headphones either, which is a trend I observe recently.

In case you read through before removing it, the screen cover sticker indicated its other main features such as the 128G storage,  5000mAh battery, and 13MP camera. A quick check on the system settings will immediately confirms these.

4 Main Features

All these 4 main features are actually impressive for an entry-level phone.

The huge 6.5″ screen size is certainly big enough while the HD+ LCD display with 1600×720 resolution and a 60hz refresh rate is comfortable enough to the eye, specially for the older age bracket users. And the edgeless design just brings it to another level in terms of style.

WIKO T10 128G Large Storage Space

The 128G storage is actually large for this price range. Users can store thousands of decent photos and videos, and installed app. I tis furthermore upgradable upto 512G via the hybrid slot on the sim tray.

Entry level phones are good with a 4KmAh battery, so the extra umph a 5000mAh is a surely a welcome extra that lasted with me days on stand-by mode, and a good  whole day on full use of shooting photos on the field, and internet surfing over WiFi! In terms of video consumption and phone calls, that is equivalent to 20hrs of watching videos and 30hrs of calls, respectively.

My personal main phone is a mid-range, so needless to say, the photo quality left me wanting; but then again, for an entry-level, this should be ok as the resulting photos are fairly decent. Moreover, the 13MP with a decent autofocus is more than enough for a regular user.

Although it is a single rear camera, I like the effort in laying out the led flash like a second one in a square format similar to some mid-range phones. The border elevation also helps from the usual camera scratches.

More Specs

Packed in a 163.94 x 75.79 x 8.97 mm body, the WIKO T10 has a regular weight of 192 grams. A casual and apt Mediatek Helio A22 sits at its heart with a 4GB RAM running Android 11 Go.

Gamers can also play their favorite games without any issues, but do set your expectations realistically in terms of the graphics capabilities from time to time.

Connectivity wise, it comes with Bluetooth 5, GPS, a single-band Wi-Fi 802.11n.

The volume and power buttons are both on the right side while the nano-SIM tray w/ 2 slots (SIM+microSD) rests on the other.

3.5mm jack, microphone, speaker, and USB-C port

At the bottom are the standard 3.5mm jack, microphone, speaker, and USB-C port. The last one was a good surprise not common on budget phones.

Lastly, trivial as it may sound, I like that it included the features of being a mobile hotspot and has screen recording at the entry range.

Verdict

Overall, the WIKO T10 is a good entry-level smartphone specs-wise with a number of strong points for a beginner’s gadget – including the large 128G storage space, 6.5″ display size, a 13MP main camera, good battery, and USB-C port.

With a retail price point of Php 6,499, we say it’s an ideal Christmas gift for a gadget lover student to young adult!
