Neltex Hataw Challenge: How Strong is Your House PVC Pipe?

Blogger Manila was invited about a week ago to witness an amazing feat, not by a person, but by a PVC pipe (water line pipe).

We went to the World Trade Center in Pasay City where Neltex was holding the “Neltex Proud 2B16th Annual Mega Bingo Bonanza 2013 for their estimated 4,000 dealers from around the Philippines and special guests.

Also referred to as National Hardware’s Day and aside from the Bingo Game which gave away 4 cars and other prizes, a ‘Neltex Hataw Challenge‘ is dared on to visitors in one of the booths at the World Trade Center activity area.

The Neltex Hataw Challenge invites anyone at the venue and other expos to be a “palo-er“. As a palo-er, you are given the chance to hit a Neltex Saniguard 600 series pipe (their thinnest pipe), with a metal carpentry hammer

Honestly, all I know about PVC pipes is that it is where the drain water passes through. I only knew more about it in the brief lecture.

Did you know that with a fraction of 3% of your house construction cost, you can save the other 97% from going to waste? What this means is that by investing well in your water pipes which can only eat up about 3% of your total house construction cost, you can save the rest of your house (the rest which comprise 97%) from being destroyed.

This is because a faulty water and drainage pipe hidden behind the walls can lead to water leakage and eventually damage your walls, ceiling, and flood your floors, among others.

Although a seemingly small factor in house construction (even invisible to the eye most of the time), water and drainage pipes are actually critical to preserving that dream house of yours. It goes beyond the elegant bathroom fixtures, the colorful paint, or the unique interior design of your house. It will all go to waste when destroyed by a leaking drainage or water pipe.

Neltex Pipes vs Low-Quality Pipes

These substandard pipes, although cheap and affordable, use substandard materials like calcium carbonate, beyond what is recommended, instead of PVC.  Pipes made this way are brittle and will easily chip and break leading to leaks and even clogging due to pressure, heat cold, and everyday wear and tear.

A good pipe high-impact pipe should contain at least 90% K-65 PVC resin, 5% filler (apog), and 5% modifier. This is the composition of a Neltex S-600 pipe. On the other hand, other low-quality brands, try to maximize their profit and lowers the quality by reducing the PVC resin down to 35% and increasing the filler (apog) to as much as 65%. Imagine that!

Don’t let your decision or your contractors settle for cheap substandard pipes and pipe fittings to cut cost. You could even consider it as an investment for the long term.

Moreover, a brief demonstration proving the toughness and durability of Neltex PVC pipes was held for the online media.

Here is a short video of the Neltex PVC pipe demonstration as being rolled-over by a big truck.

Neltex has been in the Philippine PVC pipes industry for 50 years now. Know more about it and the Neltex Hataw Challenge at thier facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/HatawChallenge.

Now I know better about PVC pipes as evident in the Neltex Hataw Challenge, so don’t be surprised when I have to inquire “Neltex ba yan” (Is that Neltex)?
