Pioneer Insurance: Relevance & Friendship

Stories Of Friendship

Stories Of Friendship

I got my first pre-need insurance at about the age of 23. I do believe that age is way younger than the industry average in most countries including the Philippines which is dominated by big names such as Philam Life, Sun Life, and Pioneer Insurance among others.

And from that year until now that I’m in my 30s, I was also able to acquire an educational plan, another pre-need insurance, and the all-essential life insurance plan. I think it was a habit I acquired from the early realization of how important insurances are when it comes to securing the future of your love ones that may leave behind in the blink of an eye.

So when I was invited by Pioneer Insurance a few weeks ago, albeit it was held in their Makati head office which is quite far from where I reside in Quezon City, I braved the Friday night traffic going to the venue and back.

Pioneer, Your Insurance

Pioneer Insurance is one of the first insurance companies here in the Philippines. Your parents, uncles, and aunts might be quite familiar with them. They are best known with non-life insurance lines, including property, marine, motor and aviation. Most of my relatives’ cars are with Pioneer Insurance.

Founded in 1954, the Pioneer Group has achieved a number of insurance milestones for over half a century through its main arms of life and non-life insurance. Today, Pioneer Life Inc. generated gross written premiums of close to P1.2 billion in 2011. For non-life, the group’s flagship company Pioneer Insurance & Surety Corporation counted gross premiums written of over P3.8 billion in the same year.

I arrived a bit late as the program have already started when I reached their Pioneer Makati office at the corner of Paseo De Roxas and Legazpi Street. But I was able to catch the presentation of President and CEO of Pioneer Life, Inc., Lorenzo Chan Jr. about where Pioneer is today in the industry and where they are heading.

Pioneer Goes Social

More interestingly, Pioneer Insurance has made themselves internet and social-savvy having their own Facebook page, Twitter, and Instagram accounts at @PioneerPH; something not too common for the old school players who are still in the dark on how to take advantage of the digital tools available to them.

In fact, this bloggers’ night entitled “Happy Hour” event alone, is a testament that they are in the know. All these doesn’t come as a surprise though as blogger friend Giancarlo Viterbo is the Manager of their Social Media Solutions group. :)

On a more serious note, the talk also revealed plans by Pioneer to be more aggressive in the industry and to make people realize that they are still here and ready to take on the new challenges ahead brought about by the times. Marketing Services and Communications Vice President Len Celis-Pozon expressed this passionate stance.

Another highlight is their recent effort documenting videos of their real-life clients and beneficiaries. The campaign focused on the personal stories of their customers and claims. They selected a number of the most touching stories and made them into inspiring videos of real people with real stories.

With these activities, they intend to emphasize Pioneer Insurance’s relevance then and now, specially that Pioneer is turning 60 this May 2014.

Moreover, they have started an ongoing promotion which involves the younger generation to participate in a creative way about “friendship” – the Pioneer Stories of Friendship Video Competition. Know more about the video contest and the prizes by clicking on the link.

Laslty, I would also like to thank Pioneer Insurance for providing Blogger Manila a Php 10,000 accident insurance as a token for the guests who came that night. Now I could say that Pioneer is no longer just “your insurance“, it’s now “my insurance” as well. :)
