SYKES Glorietta and the Bamboo ‘Shift’
From its pioneering move in 1997 to establish itself as the first official call center in the Philippines and growing to its more than 15,000 employees today, Sykes continues to set new standards and ‘shift‘ the BPO industry just like a bamboo swing with the launch of their newest expansion – SYKES Glorietta.
Sykes Glorietta BPO 1
After sixteen years of BPO operations in the Philippines, Sykes Asia, Incorporated formally opened their new Sykes Glorietta BPO 1 building yesterday welcoming guests and the media for an afternoon tour of its facilities that can accommodate more than 2500 employees spread across almost 19,000 square meters of space.
No less than Sykes President and CEO Chuck Sykes led the traditional ribbon cutting ceremony together with Dan Hernandez (Executive VP for Global Strategy), Mike Henderson (Senior VP for APAC) and Dean Van Ormer (Vice President for Philippine Operations).
With architecture led by Gresham, Smith and Partners (USA) and Adrianse Group Philippines, the phase 1 which covered 4 floors was finished last July while the rest of phase 2 shall be completed by next month opening up 2 new floors.
It revealed vibrant and colorful spaces for a relaxed work environment complemented by intelligent lighting comprised of 80% indirect sunlight and 20% direct. The training rooms were customized with smart and state-of-the-art equipment while the numerous huddle rooms hopes to improve communication between employees. All of which are supported with ergonomic chairs that adapts to all body types and sizes.
Other rooms comprised of the Recruitment Hub, Application Areas, Mother’s Room, Clinic, Production Lobby, Conference Room, Coaching Room, Sleeping Room, and Pantry.
SHIFT: Sykes Glorietta Launch
The launch was highlighted with the gathering of its key personalities, supporters, and guests in an evening cocktail held at the Activity Center of the New Glorietta. Senior Director for Operations Erick Carcamo and the aforementioned Dean Van Ormer both gave brief but very inspiring messages.
“Aside from being the pioneer in the call center industry, we also recognized the need to evolve,” shares Ormer.
That night, Sykes’ culture of support was evident with emphasis on valuing employee’s contribution through the years which brought Sykes Philippines to where it is today.
Rock-SHIFT-ed by Bamboo
And to further make the night unforgettable, all the guests, and even the passers-by in the mall was treated with a surprise entertainment from no less than Philippine’s rock music icon Bamboo!
Bamboo rocked the crowd with ear-thumping music which brought the audience to an uproar. He also performed some of his greatest hits.

Great job for Sykes. Let’s all support the local BPO companies.
“I am Sykes. How far will you let me take you? ” Have you ever heard of the slogan? I remember when I was just starting in the bpo industry. This is where I started. Congratulations Sykes for the newest expansion.
